(28 June 10) Extending a demonstration setup by the Exploratorium, I was able to compute the speed of sound in air. This is an experiment which took no unusual equipment and very little special knowledge. Anyone could do this at home, (assuming they can hear fog signals from the Golden Gate bridge), here is how I did it.

Through high school and college I had seen black and white pictures in my text books of grainy lines that were supposed to be the interference pattern cast by light interacting with its self.
